Yes. It is pretty cool to have a lover from far away.
What is not cool about it is that if you want to get together, you have to be ready for some stressful and tedious brainstorming. Do I need to mention paperwork?

As a French citizen, I can only stay in Canada for 6 months as a tourist. I cannot work and I cannot study there.

Because I am a girl and probably because I am the think-ahead type (or daydreamer if you prefer but then I have already mention my gender),I, soon in the relationship, started to look for information about expatriation.

I found out about "The Canada-France Youth Mobility Programs" -renamed "The International Experience Canada"- which allowed French citizens aged between 18 and 35 years old to do so, that is to say, work legally in the country under four different programs.
I decided to apply for the Working Holiday Program which "is designed for French youth wishing to go to Canada for tourism and cultural discovery purposes, while being authorized to work to supplement their financial resources (maximum 12 months)".The advantage of this program is that you don't need to have a job offer before you go.

I submitted my application on November 19th and was informed of the first acceptance on November 24th (the day before my birthday!).My file was then transferred to the Visas and Immigration Service for the second phase of evaluation and it felt like forever...

However, on December 23rd, I received an email from the embassy of Canada saying:
"Dear Sir/Madam, your application for a work permit has been approved under the Working Holiday Program.(...)We wish you a pleasant stay in Canada". :D

For some reason, I am still feeling nervous about my going there. I mean travelling-wise. I was told that I would only need my "letter of introduction", a valid passport, a copy of my health insurance contract, and a proof of funds. I am just hoping they won't be difficult when I am five minutes away from my lover!

The thing is...it is just the beginning of a long long (well hopefully) struggle with the immigration. When my visa expires, what I am supposed to do?
Let's not worry about that too much for now. I haven't left yet!

Oui. C'est vrai. C'est plutôt cool d'avoir un amoureux qui vient de loin.
Ce qui est moins cool, c'est de devoir faire plein de démarches administratives, remplir des papiers, etc

En tant que citoyenne française, j'ai le droit de séjourner sur le sol canadien pendant six mois. Mais je ne peux ni y travailler, ni y étudier.

Comme je suis une fille et que j'ai tendance à anticiper les choses (on pourrait aussi dire que je suis du genre à rêver éveiller mais j'ai déjà dit que j'étais une fille, non?), je me suis très vite renseignée pour une éventuelle expatriation.

J'ai découvert qu'il y avait un programme intitulé "mobilité jeunesse France-Canada" qui a été rebaptisé "Expérience internationale Canada", qui permet aux jeunes âgés de 18 à 35 ans de travailler légalement au Canada pendant une période donnée sous quatres différents programmes.
J'ai décidé de postuler au programme Vacances Travail qui a été crée pour permettre aux jeunes français souhaitant aller au Canada pour vivre une expérience culturelle de travailler pour financer leur séjour (12 mois). J'ai choisi ce programme parce qu'il ne nécessite pas d'avoir une promesse d'emploi pour pouvoir partir.

J'ai envoyé ma candidature le 19 novembre et j'ai passé la première étape le 24 novembre (un jour avant mon anniversaire!). Mon dossier a ensuite été transféré au service de l'immigration...et l'attente a été insoutenable!

Et puis le 23 décembre, j'ai reçu un email disant:

"Madame/Monsieur,votre demande de permis de travail a été approuvée sous le programme Vacances-Travail. Nous vous souhaitons un agréable séjour au Canada." :D

Même si tout est organisé, j'ai peur que pour une raison ou une autre, ils ne me délivrent pas ce fameux permis de travail. Il semble ne me falloir que la lettre d'introduction, un passeport (le mien tant qu'à faire) valide, une attestation de fond et une copie de mon contrat d'assurance médicale. Espèrons qu'ils ne soient pas difficiles...à 5 minutes de J.

Le pire c'est que ce n'est que le début de longues tribulations avec l'immigration. Que vais-je faire une fois mon visa expiré?
